Currently, XSOM does not have a brick and mortar location. All of our classes are held either in a teacher’s home studio, the student’s home, or online.
We offer both in person and online lessons. Please note that in person lessons are only available in certain regions of the GTA, whereas online lessons can be taken from anywhere in Ontario.
This depends on many factors. Both in-person and online lessons have their pros and cons. The biggest factor is the question of commuting. If you don't mind commuting to the teacher's home, or paying extra to have a teacher come to your home, in-person lessons are ideal. If you live in an area of the city where in-person lessons would not be an option (for example, the teacher is too far away from your home), online lessons are great. Please read the full list of pros and cons for in-person and online lessons here. It is generally recommended not to have beginner students start with online lessons, but this also depends on the student. If you still need help deciding what kind of lessons would be best for you, contact XSOM and we can help you make a decision!
At the moment, XSOM only offers private lessons, though group lessons may be an option in the future. Please send an email to info@xaviersmusic.com to join our email list to be notified when group lessons are available.
We currently offer lessons for the following instruments: piano, voice, guitar, ukulele, bass, violin, viola, cello, drums, clarinet, saxophone, and flute. If there is another instrument that was not mentioned that you would like to learn, contact us and we will try our best to find a teacher for you.
Yes, we encourage all students to learn music theory alongside their instrument lessons. You don’t need to take separate lessons for theory, as our teachers integrate theory into practice which is what makes it an enjoyable experience. Students also have the option to take RCM theory exams (from Level 5 to Level 8), as well as music history and harmony exams (from Level 9 to ARCT).
We are currently in the process of creating online courses which will be made available in the summer of 2022. We understand that not all students are able to commit to regular private lessons for many reasons, and we want to make sure that people who fall into this category still have an option to learn music! Please stay tuned for more information on our online courses when they release this summer. If you have a request for content you would like to see in a course, use the form on the contact page and let us know!
